W&L University Magazine
THe Literary Issue
The Washington and Lee University magazine is a flagship publication that connects alumni, parents, and friends with the life of the university. Working within a collaborative editorial and design team, I focus primarily on producing the Alumni section — one of the most widely read portions of the magazine.
My responsibilities include designing and managing the Class Notes, Obituaries, and Weddings pages. These sections require careful organization of large volumes of submissions, thoughtful typographic hierarchy, and meticulous attention to detail to ensure readability while honoring personal milestones and remembrances within the alumni community.
Beyond the alumni pages, I also contribute to the design and layout of select feature stories, working closely with editorial to balance photography, illustration, and long-form narratives. The magazine’s overall direction is shaped by Director of Publications and Design Jamie Lipps and Editorial Director Jessica Luck, whose editorial vision and art direction guide each issue.
Within that framework, my role is to translate complex editorial content into clear, engaging page layouts that maintain consistency across the publication while allowing individual stories and alumni voices to stand out.
